Breaking news: civil unions not the same as marriage by Laura Kiritsy
Editor-in-chiefTuesday Apr 22, 2008 A special commission appointed to study whether or not Vermont should upgrade from civil unions to marriage equality for same-sex couples spent eight months traveling the state listening to public testimony on both sides of the issue, in addition to holding one legal forum. So, what was the commission’s conclusion after all that study? According to this article this was the commission’s stunning conclusion:
"The commission recommends that Vermont take seriously the difference between civil marriage and civil union," said chair of the Vt. Commission on Family Recognition & Protection, Tom Little.
That’s right, the commission made no recommendation one way or the other. Gee, thanks. That’s real helpful.
What a bunch of chickens. You can read the commission’s entire report here.
