Gay champion Chief Justice Marshall to hit the radio waves
BY HANNAH CLAY WAREHAM | FEBRUARY 26, 2010
Janis Pryor for WUMB-FM's Commonwealth Journal will interview Chief Justice Margaret Marshall of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court on Tuesday, March 9 at 6 p.m.
Marshall, who is the first woman to hold the position of Chief Justice, wrote the 2003 decision in Goodridge v. Department of Public Health that legalized same-sex marriage in Massachusetts. According to Marshall, the state's constitution "affirms the dignity and equality of all individuals. It forbids the creation of second-class citizens." She wrote that there exists no "constitutionally adequate reason for denying marriage to same-sex couples."
Marshall is a graduate of both Harvard University and Yale University Law School.
