As two progressive members of the Massachusetts House of Representatives and the LGBTQ community, we have the privilege of knowing Marty Walsh as both a colleague and a friend. We know he is someone who fights for what is right because we experience it firsthand. His character and determination are exactly why he will make an excellent mayor for Boston.
Marty fights alongside us everyday on the issues that count for the LGBTQ community. In 2004 when marriage equality was in danger, not only did Marty vote for same-sex marriage, he was the floor whip for MassEquality and helped lead the charge to keep marriage legal in Massachusetts. Marty took a huge political risk to stand up and defend equity. Today, he calls it his proudest vote on Beacon Hill. That is the unwavering leadership we need at Boston City Hall.
Besides marriage, Marty is a tireless supporter of other issues affecting every aspect of our community including HIV/AIDS funding, LGBT domestic violence shelters, anti-bullying legislation, helping to save the LGBT Youth Commission when it was threatened by Governor Romney, and myriad other initiatives. He is an ally, a fighter, and a true friend to the LGBTQ community.
We need a strong leader like Marty, who will not waffle when it comes to the tough issues. Marty is that leader for our community. Marty will work tirelessly to ensure that every community in this great city has both a voice in his administration and the support they need to thrive and make Boston vibrant.
We know Marty; we trust Marty, which is why we are proud to endorse him to be the next Mayor of Boston. Join us in supporting him. Election Day is Tuesday, November 5th. Please cast your ballot for Martin J. Walsh – a tireless fighter for the LGBTQ community.
