Maine marriage-battle leader thought ads contained hyperbole
The man who led the successful 2009 campaign to effect a voter veto of Maine's law that legalized same-sex marriage thought the campaign's ads contained hyperbole.

The law passed the Maine Legislature and was signed by the governor but was put on hold until the election. Voters then repealed it by 53 to 47 percent in November 2009.

In the upcoming documentary Question One, clips of which have been released online, Marc Mutty is shown during the campaign saying: "[W]e use a lot of hyperbole, and I think that's always dangerous. You know, we say things like 'Teachers will be forced to.' Well, that's not a completely accurate statement and we all know it isn't, you know? ...Let's look back at our ads and see what we say. And I think we use hyperbole to a point where, you know, it's like, geez." Video: www.tinyurl.com/hyp1ad.

Mutty also says: "This [campaign] has been awful. I hate it. ...All we can hope for is that people heal, that I heal, that we all heal." Video: www.tinyurl.com/q1trai.
