Coalition for Marriage to celebrate Prop 8
by Ethan Jacobs
associate editor
Tuesday Dec 23, 2008

Just in time to spread some holiday cheer, the Coalition for Marriage announced that it plans to hold a fundraiser in Quincy Jan. 10 to give local anti-gay Bay Staters the chance to toast the passage of California’s Proposition 8. The Coalition, the grassroots arm of the unsuccessful campaign to ban same-sex marriage in Massachusetts, will celebrate the work of their more successful counterparts across the country.

"The passage of Prop 8 in California was a crucial win for family values - one worth celebrating - even as our opponents violently take to the streets in protest of its passage," wrote the Coalition in an e-mail to its supporters, referring to the anti-Prop 8 protests across the country, which have largely been peaceful.

The Coalition is also working to ramp up support for its efforts to oppose the transgender rights bill, which failed to pass this session and which advocates plan to re-file next year. The Coalition’s email dismissively referred to the bill - which would rewrite the state’s non-discrimination and hate crimes laws to make them transgender-inclusive - as the "cross-dresser bill."

The fundraiser will take place at Quincy’s Skyline Restaurant from noon to 2:30 p.m., and the Coalition is charging $18 per person to attend.
