Clinton statement on California marriage decision by Laura Kiritsy
Editor-in-chiefThursday May 15, 2008 Here’s Sen. Hillary Clinton rather underwhelming response to today’s pro-equality court ruling from the California Supreme Court. We had hoped that with her presidential campaign winding down that she’d go out in a blaze of glory. Alas, we expected too much. See for yourself:
"Hillary Clinton believes that gay and lesbian couples in committed relationships should have the same rights and responsibilities as all Americans and believes that civil unions are the best way to achieve this goal. As President, Hillary Clinton will work to ensure that same sex couples have access to these rights and responsibilities at the federal level. She has said and continues to believe that the issue of marriage should be left to the states."
We’re still waiting on Obama and McCain, but it’s unlikely they’ll be turning cartwheels over the decision.
It’ll be interesting to see how McCain reacts. Will he be campaigning with the newest gay marriage governor?
