Gay aide to Gov. Patrick arrested in Fla. by Laura Kiritsy
Editor-in-chiefThursday Feb 7, 2008 The Boston Globe today has a story about the arrest of Stan McGee in Florida, for alleged sexually assaulting a 15-year-old. McGee is the assistant secretary for policy and planning to Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Daniel O’Connell. He was one of the first openly gay person appointed to Gov. Deval Patrick’s administration.
Prior to that McGee served as the director of MassEquality’s groundbreaking business and civic initiative, which recruited a number of high-profile business honchos to the marriage equality movement. In a Bay Windows interview about McGee’s work with the organization last year, MassEquality Campaign Director Marc Solomon credited McGee with making "a huge difference" in the fight to preserve marriage equality in Massachusetts, praising his ability to effectively go where no ordinary grassroots activist could: the corporate boardroom. "Making the pitch to CEOs is not the kind of thing that [just] anyone can do," Solomon said. "Stan had the unique ability to be able to make contacts with these folks, he was relentless in his pursuit of business leaders. ...And then he could speak to them in a peer-to-peer way."
According to the Globe, McGee was arrested on Dec. 28 and will be arraigned on a sexual battery charge next week in a Florida court. He has been placed on unpaid leave from his job in the Patrick administration.
