Governor of Maine John Baldacci and members of the Connecticut legislature were honored on Nov. 14 at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) 2009 Gala Dinner.

Recipients of the HRC’s Marriage Equality award also included Peter Shumlin, the Vermont Senate President Pro Tempore, and Ray Buckley, chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, who was in absentia. Rep. Paul Hodes accepted the award on Buckley’s behalf.

The evening featured a moving slideshow dedicated to the late Sen. Edward Kennedy as well as performance by Mantryx, an aerial acrobatic duo whose Cirque du Soleil-esque performance kept the audience’s eyes glued to the ceiling.

HRC president Joe Solmonese was in attendance, and delivered a rousing speech about the promising future of the marriage equality battle. Tens of thousands of dollars were raised during the evening’s auctions.
