Calling all the movers and shakers
BY E.L. KAUFMAN | JANUARY 18, 2011
Have you been feeling like your Tuesday nights are just missing something? Like you need a little inspiration to make it through the rest of the week? Here's a solution to your problem -- a new monthly queer dance night at the Midway Café in Jamaica Plain.
The cleverly titled "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," touted as being "a dance night beyond sexuality," is the mastermind of two up-and-coming Boston DJs: DJ Drasher (of Trash Hall fame) and DJ Diver. Drasher and Diver are striving to create a space where "people can be as original as possible...because we live in a samey kind of society." The music they play crosses genres and decades and includes selections from electro, italo disco, house, punk, rock, and hip hop. The two DJs stress that the night is not just another dance night, but a dance experience, beginning with an hour of slow dark lounge grooves to pique your curiosity, and then moving into a party that doesn't quit until two in the morning. The night will also feature psychedelic art videos created by Nick Day that are sure to get your creative juices flowing. Something else that will be flowing is the special drink created just for the night, called "The Dishonorable Discharge."
"This will not be like every other night out," promises DJ Diver. "This will be a night of dirty dance, diverse sexuality, public art, and fearless fashion."
"We all create what comes next on this planet," adds DJ Drasher. "Let's not live our lives with one hand tied behind our backs. Have fun with life!"
Going out to dance on Fridays and Saturdays is fun, but to be honest, a little boring. Instead of letting loose at the end of the week, why not set the tone for the week to come by getting creative, opening up your sexuality, having a ton of fun, and dancing the night away surrounded by beautiful, inspirational people? See you at the Midway Café, Jan. 25!
"Don't Ask Don't Tell" dance nights will happen the last Tuesday of every month at the Midway Café in Jamaica Plain (3496 Washington St.). Doors at 8 p.m., music starts at 9 p.m. $5 admission, 21+. For more information, go to www.pleasedontaskdonttell.blogspot.com.
