Political action through commerce is harder than it sounds. On Black Friday Eve (aka Thanksgiving), a family member mentioned how tough it was for Wal Mart employees and then, just minutes later, wondered aloud where the nearest Wal Mart was because they had great Black Friday sales.

It’s complicated. Buying things we want at a price we can afford while staying true to our convictions. For us LGBT folks, it’s a bit easier. The businesses who support our equality regularly talk directly to us, through ads or sponsorships. The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has made it even easier for “good” shopping with their Buyer’s Guide. You can search companies at hrc.org or you can download an app that lets you search on the go. Make your gift buying mean a little something more.
