An urgent plea
Due to an unexpected loss of funding, without your immediate help, our LGBT Caregiver Support Group will end.
Many caregivers in the group have begged us to "do all we can" to save this support for them. Our only hope of continuing this group is to turn to our friends and supporters and ask for your help.
The LGBT Aging Project has become a national model for LGBT aging organizations, and the monthly Caregiver Support Group is one of many unique services we provide. It has been a safe haven for members to discuss issues specific to LGBT caregivers with an ill or dying partner, parent, sibling, spouse, or friend. This is a valued resource that does not exist elsewhere. It is the ONLY LGBT caregiver support group in the Boston region.
So many people have participated during the ten years we have offered this group - from a few visits to years of membership. Some recent members have shared their concerns:
"Three years ago, my parents' health was deteriorating and here I was in Boston, overwhelmed, sad, and confused, living three and a half hours away from them. I was lucky to find the LGBT Caregiver Support Group to help guide me in the process of helping my parents.
Facilitated by a professional social worker who works with the elderly, we get advice on how to navigate the healthcare system...and suggestions on how to take care of ourselves so we can better take care of our family... and I can safely talk about the toll my parents' situation is taking on my relationship."
Another member caring for his spouse with dementia said this has been a most helpful group to him because:
"I have so much in common with the other LGBT caregivers living right here in Boston in similar circumstances... making me feel more a part of the community. Please do whatever we can to save such a valuable resource!"
Your support TODAY will allow this group to continue. Without your help, this LGBT resource will sadly disappear.
