Inspired by a federal appeals court ruling this week, a gay Fargo couple went to the Cass County Courthouse to apply for a marriage license.
Lenny Tweeden and Wayne Rosell didn't get one.
The North Dakota Constitution says marriage in the state is reserved for one man and one woman. Voters approved the amendment in 2004.
Tweeden and Rosell have been together for 25 years.
They made their courthouse trip Thursday, Feb. 9, two days after a federal appeals court struck down a California constitutional amendment that says marriage is between one man and one woman. Voters in California approved the amendment four years ago.
The ruling was made by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. North Dakota is not part of the region the court serves.
