PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP)—Twenty buildings in Providence are being lit in red in connection with World AIDS Day.

Buildings all around the U.S. have been illuminated in red, the color associated with the effort to fight HIV and AIDS, as part of the (RED) campaign. Participating businesses have been donating a portion of their profits to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The campaign, founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver, focuses on ending AIDS in Africa.

In Providence, the buildings include City Hall, the Statehouse, the Biltmore Hotel, the Rhode Island Convention Center, the Providence Performing Arts Center and others.

A ceremony is being held on Monday evening at the Biltmore with Mayor Angel Taveras, health professionals and community leaders.

World AIDS Day was Saturday.
