The Theater Offensive (TTO) invites the Boston community to support LGBTQ & allied youth at the second annual Beyond the Stage fundraiser on Thursday, November 21at the offices of Hill Holliday, Boston’s premier advertising agency. Beyond the Stage will honor the remarkable youth of True Colors: OUT Youth Theater troupe, TTO’s revolutionary theater program for LGBTQ youth and their straight allies ages 14 to 22. This is your opportunity to meet the youth and hear their stories.
True Colors youth will present a brief performance to showcase their creativity and talent, followed by a series of personal testimonials that will attest to their strength and courage. Guests will also hear remarks from the parents of True Colors youth and event co-chairs Nia Clark and Stephen Kauffman.
Kauffman says, “What is special to me and the reason I support True Colors is because I believe that through performance a person can express something that has been too hard to discuss or talk about before. That sharing makes us all more understanding.”
True Colors creates original theatrical works based on personal experiences and challenges LGBTQ youth face, including: bullying, coming out, being rejected by their families, homelessness, discrimination, violence, depression, and suicide. Each year, True Colors tours around Massachusetts to present their original works to schools, organizations, and government programs to educate audiences about LGBTQ issues.
Beyond the Stage will take place at the offices of Hill Holliday (53 State St., Boston; ID is required to enter the building) on Thursday, November 21 from 6-8pm. Attire is business casual. Tickets for Beyond the Stage are $50 and may be purchased online: http://bts2013.brownpapertickets.com.
